  • Looking ahead to 2009

    9 September, 2008

The YS team has been doing a fair bit of planning and organising for 2009 over the past couple of months. There has been a number of issues that we have needed to consider as we look to the future; staff on long service leave and maternity leave, a number of new opportunities for Surges and training days, the publication of new resources, and issues with targeting parents and church leaders with the need to disciple young people. Adding to all this is the issue of limited funds.

Grappling with these issues YS has decided to push ahead into 2009 on a number of fronts.

Firstly, we are going to cut back the number of surges per region from 4 to 2. Having Surge twice a year in any given venue will allow the team to put more energy and focus into each Surge, and slightly expand the program. It will also allow us to consider breaking into new regions with Surges and training.

Secondly, we are going to hold a number of breakfast meeting for youth and youth ministry stake holders (parents, church leaders) to engage with them on the issues facing teenagers and encouraging them to equip the next generation to live for Jesus.

Thirdly, we are planning to expand the Launch network because we regard it as one of the most valuable things we do. At Launch we are engaging with young people at a stage of there life where they are thinking about their future and making life long choices. We want them to know that a life poured out for the glory of the Lord Jesus is the most noble life...the best life. In 2009 we are planning two Launch camps in QLD and looking to expand into WA & NT in 2010.

Fourthly, we are going to give considerable attention to developing our pool of youth ministry resources and distribution network.

The YS team would greatly value your prayers as we finalise plans for next year and keep working towards the goal of having youth ministries in Australia exisiting to glorify the Lord Jesus in everything.
