Sydney North Surge - Term 2

Temptation to be Liked

NO PEER PRESSUREwas the response of a 102 year old woman who was asked, “What do you think is the best thing about being 102?"

Yeh, in one sense they're right, although peer pressure pays no attention to age.Children, teens and adults are all victims and perpetrators of peer pressure games. We obsess over body shape, weight, hair style, cars, houses, friends and clothing.

Peer pressure is part of life for everyone; we all want to fit in and be liked. Peer pressure is an issue for the follower of Jesus too.John 15 says that if we are going to follow Jesus we are not going to fit in - If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own.As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.

This term at Surge we are going to investigate the temptation to be liked by the world and therefore to be enticed away into sin and rejection of Jesus.

Hope to see you there!
