Garage Hymnal

Garage Hymnal will be performing at all ROUND 2 Sydney Surges.
Garage Hymnal is excited to be partnering with Youthsurge saying"People seem to assume that you have to choose between great worship or great bible teaching. What we have in common with Youthsurge is that we don't like choosing, we want it all!" says Andy Judd, keyboardist in Garage Hymnal. "We want to reach youth with the gospel using all that our culture has to offer. Make an impact in culture, and you can change the world!"

Garage Hymnal launched their new album in May this year, and look forward to sharing their exciting new sound at Surge!

Launch Camp News

The inaugural South Qld Launch Camp ran from June 29 to July 3 at the Presbyterian Camp Grounds in Mount Tamborine and was attended by 11 teenagers from Arundel, Dalby, Mitchelton and Mt Tamborine Presbyterian churches. The camp was organised with the intention of training year 10 to 12 students to become the youth leaders of the future.
The youth leaders in training did three workshops including Youth Leadership 101, Creative Approaches to Children's Ministry and Rethinking Youth Ministry. They also heard a seminar on 'Sex and Relationships' and threw themselves into an interactive role playing game simulating the experiences of overseas missionaries.

The trainees also participated in daily Bible study groups, prayer triplets and quiet times and heard five talks on the book of 1 Peter by Sydney basaed youth minister Paul Gaetjans, who serves at Camden Anglican Church."It's wonderful to see that there are passionate young people out there who want to make a difference for Jesus. They could be doing other things in their holidays but they have chosen to spend five days being challenged and trained to help others follow Jesus," Paul said.

Mitchelton Presbyterian Church Youth Minister Stuart Hoadley says he was very encouraged by the commitment and maturity shown by the youth during the week. "It has been wonderful to see the potential these young people have to grow the church in the future and the keenness and enthusiasm they have shown to live for Christ," Mr Hoadley said.

Arundel youth group member and Year 10 student Taylah Robb says this camp has opened her to the possibility of leading youth at church in the future. "I never thought about youth leadership before but this camp has me thinking about it seriously now," she said.

Mt Tamborine youth group member and Year 12 student Sophie Mott valued the training and fellowship at Launch Camp, and says she plans to do Strand 2 training next year. "The teaching has been awesome. It has got me thinking about so many different things I have to work on if I want to be a leader, given that younger kids will be looking up to me," Sophie says. "The fellowship has been great, especially the praying and singing with my brothers and sisters in Christ. I'll be coming back next year for sure!"
